DeShawn ‘Shawn’ L. SirajanMuneer-Hunter

Co-founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer

Shawn is a dedicated advocate for juvenile justice reform with a proven track record of driving positive change. With over nineteen years of experience within the justice system, Shawn has firsthand knowledge of incarcerated individuals' systemic challenges.

Shawn holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Sociology and an Associate of Arts in Social Science. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Human Services with a minor in Psychology. This academic foundation, coupled with extensive practical and lived experience, has equipped Shawn with a deep understanding of human behavior, social dynamics, and the factors contributing to criminal activity.

Recognizing the immediate need for effective rehabilitative programs for incarcerated youth, Shawn founded Camp Resistance, Escape, Evasion, and Survival (Camp REES) in 2008. This innovative initiative offers a transformative alternative to traditional juvenile incarceration, focusing on personal growth, skill development, and mentorship. Camp REES is strategically designed to foster a supportive environment where participants can overcome negative mindsets and embrace new opportunities.

As the President and Co-founder of Camp REES, Shawn is committed to providing a safe and nurturing space for young people to develop their full potential. Through education, counseling, vocational, and practical training, Camp REES empowers young individuals to break free from the cycle of crime and build a brighter future while contributing to society. Shawn’s passion, dedication, and personal experience make Camp REES a force to be reckoned with in juvenile justice reform.
